Finding the Perfect Swimsuit for Summer

It may not seem like it, but summer is coming. The sun’s beams, warm and sometimes uncomfortable, will make and appearance this summer, so you need to be ready.  That means finding the perfect swim suit for your body.  Every woman’s body is different so naturally, some clothing options work and others end up looking horrendous.  Here are six options, each unique and trendy for the summer for you to pick and choose from.  Throughout the summer, a little more skin is revealed than in the average winter weather, so we want you to be comfortable in your own skin.  Here’s some way to do it:
1. The Triangle

The first on the list is the very reliable triangle swimsuit.  It’s the most basic look that is both suitable as a trendy just walking on sand or wading in the water look or for the more “sporty” type that indulges in wake boarding and surfing.  Think Kate Bosworth in Blue Crush.

2. Strapless

A strapless bikini, is the epitome of feminine as bikinis come.  With cute florals, ruffles or a jeweled connection, this style of swim suit is classic, sweet and perfect for lounging.

3. Push Up

Push Up swim suits are the fun, flirtatious and sexy.  They give you an air of sexy confidence.  With either a halter or spaghetti strapped styling, this type of swim suit knows how to accentuate your body in a cool confident way.  They’re even quite cute and feminine with a cute tie in the middle.

4. Retro

Retro and vintage swimsuits became trendy recently, but there’s something about a mix of a high waisted conservative floral bottom and cute corset-ish top that makes this look addicting.  Think how great Taylor Swift looks donning her vintage swim wear with her cute pony tail and a pair or round lens sunglasses.  It’s a new design that show a woman who is not afraid to change with the tides of fashion, but yet owns her own sense of self in no matter what she wears.

5.  Tankini

Think back to the days of the effortlessly beautiful Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model.  Think Cyndi Crawford smiling proudly on the cover.  The tankini is one of the most basic designs: a top hanging off at the waist and a cute ruffled bottom.  It’s the swimsuit where you don’t have to worry about what your body looks like, about bloating and such, and you can still look and feel beautiful.  Add a cute sun hat and shades and you can channel any fashion time period in this timeless piece.

6. The One-Piece or Monikini

The first time I saw a monokini was in the CW show Nikita where Maggie Q plays a seductive rogue agent.  Her job, naturally, was to seduce men and her red hot number certainly did the job.  The monokini is essentially a one piece swim suit, but it has been re-vamped, and really re-vamped.  Straps still hang from the shoulders and the swimsuit covers your body, but in the midrift area, cutouts are made.  Now cutouts are on top of the current trend listings with shirts and dresses, so why not put them into swimsuits?  The monokini is possesses power and attention with its intense design.  It hones in on sexy and carries it all the way through.

Each swim suit, from the traditional bikini to the daring monokini are unique, beautiful and stylish for any water outing.  So choose which look is your key look and which will you be trying out.

Top 5 Must Needed Items for Winter

Hi there Redemption readers,

The winter weather has not been fair to us this year.  It seems as if, once we get a day warmer than 30 degrees, yes that is now what we equate to warmness, it suddenly hits 15 or lower again.  Once the snow starts to melt, the next day, it will start snowing again.  So how to you survive this never-ending reign of frigid cold weather and still stay fashionable at the same time?  Is there a way?  Here are five key items that you need to survive winter and still look great while doing it.

Here’s How…

1. Pea CoatsImage

There’s no classier way to commemorate the winter than with a very stylish pea coat.  Yes, long puffers are wool capes are now emerging, but nothing can beat the traditional pea coat.  There are just so many to choose from: short, mid-length, black, double breasted, bright red or yellow, plaid and more.  There’s a pea coat for every style.  Whether you are the traditional double breasted pea coat type of girl, the edgy rocker girl who would opt towards a pea coat with leather panels or sleeves or the sweet romantic girl who would most likely wear a coat with a simple peter pan collar and cute little pockets, this jacket is just for you.  And if you think the coat is the best part, wait until you reveal you cute outfit underneath.

2. BeretsImageWhy wear a beanie that doesn’t exactly work well with your leather boots and wool pea coat, when you can go for a much more elegant take on winter head coverings?  Berets are stylish little caps that keep your ears warm and you look still classy.  Grab them in assorted colors for any winter occasion.

3. Blanket Scarvesblanket scarfBlanket scarves are a must-have for this winter season.  Instead of light sheer fall scarves that barely cover anything, blanket scarves cover EVERYTHING!  They are wide and long amounts of patterned fabric that you can drape around your neck.  You can create new ways to wear them every time and they cover every amount of skin so that the chill wind is no long penetrable.

4. Long SkirtsImageThere’s not a reason not to look and feel feminine even when it’s freezing cold outside.  Don’t feel like you have to go outside wearing a pair of yoga pants, sweats or God forbid, your pajamas bottoms, just to feel warm.  Long skirts reach over your knee cap and flare out.  Opt towards a thick wool skirt or cotton skirt with simple buttons streaming down the middle.  Long skirts are both elegant and simple, but keep it sophisticated.  Pair your skirt with simple or textured tights and pair them with ankle booties.  The key strategy is to balance.  Go for a simple v-neck or light sweater.  You don’t want to pair a chunky sweater with a full skirt, keep the balance.

5. Knee High Cable SocksImageKnee High Cable Socks are the perfect accessory for winter.  You can either end up looking like a Catholic school girl, Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl or create you own style with the wonderful stylish socks.  Not only do the thick cable wool material keep your feet warm and toasty, but they look great with a cute dress or underneath knee high leather boots. Just pull them further than your boots go and scrunch them a little.  It adds a perfect “pop” to your look.  Don’t be afraid to get creative with them.  Use bright colors, argyle patterns or intricate designs to spruce up any outfit.  Any detail makes a lasting impact.

Winter fashion has its pros and cons.  On the plus side, you’re able to dig out your Ugg boots, pea coats and cute scarves and on the other hand, it lasts way too long.  Hopefully these fashion items will make it go by faster.  Or, if you’re someone genuinely enjoys the winter time, the snow falling from the sky, the refreshing evening chill and a warm cup of coffee, then here’s to hoping these fashion items made you love winter even more.

Top 5 DIY Facial Masks

Sometimes to get your body feeling relaxed you just need to give it a proper time out. That means taking 20 minutes out of your day to soak in the bath tub and listen to soothing Sara Bareilles or The Civil Wars, or watch a great comedy that will get you laughing. To have great skin, you also need to give it rest. This means facial mask. We all know how important a good facial is. It leaves your face feeling refreshed and new. Use these DIY facial masks to bring back that great feeling to your skin. Take off any makeup, wash your face and allow your skin to relax with a facial mask. Here are a few DIY facial masks you can try at home.

1. Avocado and Oatmeal.

Avocados are not only great for your health, but for skin as well. Paired with oats, that soak up the liquid from the avocado, you have the perfect facial mask.

Here’s what you’ll need:
– 1 avocado
– 2 tablespoons of raw honey
– 1/4 cup of oats

Simply apply the mixture on your face and let it sit for about half an hour. Relax, sip some tea and then wash off the mask when it’s time.

This mixture will be more than enough for your face, so throw a girls night to pass your homemade facial mask around. The oats become soggy after sitting in the avocado and honey, so this will have to be a one time batch, but the good news is that it’s simple enough to make another night.

2. Honey and Cinnamon

This facial mask is for oily skin. Honey is good ingredient that will dry out unwanted blemishes on oily skin. Mixed with cinnamon, it heals your skin naturally.

Here’s what you’ll need:
– 5 tablespoons of natural raw honey
– 2 teaspoons of cinnamon

3. Coffee and Cocoa

For those who are well aware of the affects coffee has on our bodies, it’s no surprise that it’s also used as a facial remedy. Scientists actually started using caffeine in beauty products.

Here’s what you’ll need:
1/2 Cup ground organic coffee beans (any type, pre-ground or grind them yourself.)
1/2 Cup organic, unsweetened cocoa powder
1 Cup of unsweetened whole milk (you can also substitute for unsweetened almond milk)
1 Tbsp of lemon juice (for dry skin, try olive or almond oil)
1 Tbsp of honey (for extra oily or acne prone skin, use additional lemon juice here instead of honey)

You will want to mix together the coffee and cocoa first and then insert the milk, lemon juice and honey. For a thicker mask paste, use less milk. Leave the mask on for 20-30 minutes and then rinse.

4. Oats and Natural Yogurt

You’ll be surprised at what a good mask yogurt makes. It is light and perhaps too much liquid, but when combined with natural oats, it forms into the perfect facial mask. The milk in the yogurt provides natural healthy ingredients that your skin needs. So if your aren’t getting your calcium or Vitamin D through milk product consumption, this mask is a great way to get that content in your body. The oats are a great addition to the yogurt. They hold the mask together and soak up the yogurt’s nutrients.

Here’s what you’ll need:
– 5 tablespoons of natural plain yogurt (you can even opt for the low fat)
– a handful of oats. It’s a great idea to crush them with your hands just so that you don’t have full oats on your face.

5. Cucumber

We all know how refreshing cucumbers are, cooling down your skin, cleansing it. No wonder they put cucumbers over your eyes at the spa. Now you can have your own cucumber facial mask.

Here’s what you’ll need:
– 1/2 cucumber
– 1/4 cup milk
– 1 tbsp honey
– 1 tbsp brown sugar

These ingredients mix the perfect natural exfoliant (brown sugar) with the soft and natural smoothing milk and honey ingredients and the coolness of cucumbers. This facial is intended to give your face a break and let it cool down. It’ll show too!

Let us know which one you’ve decided to try.

Until Next Time,

Warming Up for Fall: Fall Coats

Welcome to November, Redemption readers.  We’re reaching that time where you just want to snuggle up with your Sherpa throw blanket and sip a warm drink of cider or tea while watching your favorite rom-com.  Believe me, I know what you’re feeling.  However, the chilly weather can feel extra special when you have that extra special coat to show off.  This in-between weather can be very confusing.  The 30 to 50 degree temperature rests between thick pea coats and puffers and fall sweaters.  To make your decision easier, I have compiled a list of coats perfect for this weather.

Here it is:

1. The Trench

trench coat

A trench coat is the classic go-to coat for fall weather.  It’s long collar, double breasted buttons, thigh length trim and wrap around belt, create a look of simplicity, classic-ness, and a chic predecessor to your cute outfit underneath.  They look great paired with slim pants or tights and riders boots or booties.

2. The 1/2 Leather

1/2 leather fall jackets

Fall coats with leather sleeves are the perfect way to introduce edgy rocker fashion into your everyday fall look.  It’s the coat that combines the classic embodiment of a great pea coat, especially with it’s simple neck line and pockets, but also introduces another variable of leather that makes you daring and fun.  You are the type of girl who doesn’t always define fashion by the rules.  You mix, create, experiment to create a look that uniquely you.  The 1/2 leather coat does just that and they also seem to be a very popular trend right now.

3. The Chic Quilt

Quilted Jacket

To be honest, I’ve never thought much of these coats before.  I’ve always been a very traditional girl in love with pea coats, but these quilted stitched jackets have made turn a new leaf.  There’s something about them.  I don’t know if it’s the simplicity: the classic three buttons down the middle.  I don’t know if it’s the detail: the quilted pattern that makes it stand out.  The truth is, it’s a very traditional jacket, but it’s not something just reserved for a certain age.  It’s the type of jacket that works for anyone.  It’s pattern, style and simplicity makes it universal for any age range and make it timeless.

Madewell leather purse and Sam Edelman booties

Wear it with your favorite pair of jeans, leather Madewell purse and Sam Edelman suede booties and you have a classic vintage look set.

4. The Color Blocked

color blocked coat

We all know how popular color blocked dresses are.  There’s something that draws the eye to a green dress with a five inch blue trim.  There’s something daring about combining colors together into one piece of clothing to the point where you don’t even know what color it acutally is.  So why should coats be any different?  They’re not.  Adding another coat adds another dimension to the traditional pea coat.  By adding to the simple double breasted wool pea coat different colored sleeves and a trim, you are providing something else for the eyes to look at. It gives you something different, it makes your coat exciting.  Just be careful not to go too crazy with your other colors.  Because your coat already has two colors, you don’t want to wear colored jeans and bright rain boots.  Keep everything else as simple as possible so that your color blocked coat can be the main attraction.

5. The Parka

A parka jacket is the perfect blend of casual/chic.  It’s a traditional casual coat without anything flashy or super nice, but gives the simple look that allows you to be warm, comfortable and still highly fashionable.  The parka also has aspects to form your figure.  Rather than a traditional pea coat that hangs on your body, the parka is loose fitting, has deep pockets and draw strings on the sides that can scrunch the coat and create a look perfect for your figure.  It’s a coat that can be transformed and renewed.

6. The Cape

Oh, how I wish capes were more prominent in everyday fashion.  I love absolutely everything about them.  They are classy, fresh and different.  There is nothing like them.  But there is no excuse to not start the trend yourself.  They create a simple shape hanging off your shoulders.  With intricate detail on the shoulders, on the slits cut for your arms and at the hem, capes are proper coat fit for Kate Middleton to the average middle class woman, you.  They create a look that is timeless from the days of Audrey Hepburn to the most prominent fashionistas of today.

Overall, each fall coat does its duty, warms your body in preparation for this cool weather, but each coat is significant to your personal style.  Whether your a classy trench or cape woman or an edgy more casual type, fall is the in-between season where anything and everything goes.  So, enjoy it all while you can!

Bold Eyeliner…Is it a thing now?

Every fashion choice is a new adventure. It doesn’t matter if you’re glamming it up with a lace dress and classic black peep toe pumps or going vintage rocker with a pair of cuffed boyfriend jeans, a Forever 21 v-neck and your grandfather’s old vest. Each fashion statement is trying something new, potentially breaking the “Anna Wintour” rules, and represents who you are as a person. In my defense, make up works much the same way. Personally, I keep it simple with foundation and my trusty mascara wand, but make up seems to be a way women are choosing to express themselves. So when you think of colored eyeliner, what do you think?

We just got used the smokey eye and the cat eye, so why not experiment more with a little color. Colored eyeliner can really create that “wow” in your look. People won’t be looking at your shoes or your statement necklace at your collar bone line, no they’ll be looking at what matters, you. Or specifically, your eyes. They won’t just be looking, they will be drawn. It’s possible to wear colored eyeliner, without going anywhere specific. It’s not just a look meant for special night out, but feel free to try out the trend at work, going to buy groceries or for a night out with your best girlfriends.

For a softer look, try just applying the eyeliner under your bottom lashes and on your eyelids. Soften the liner by applying a small amount of eye shadow over the liner. Still create the color, but present a more smooth and blended feel. Diana Agron and Oliva Wilde both have colored eye liner on the bottom lashes and have neutral color, such as brown or a gray, on top.

For a dramatic and bold look, do be afraid to use the liner on your lids.

Bold liner shows off a confident and bold women. It’s important to not get carried away with color. I know makeup can be very fun to experiment with, but for this look, it’s important to stick with one color and work your whole outfit around it.

You want to choose the right colored liner to bring out your eyes.

It your have warm brown eyes, opt for cool colors that will bring out that warm hue. Olive green or grays are perfect. They will make your eyes appear lighter, but will still hold in that warm tone.

For light brown, hazel, or green eyes, it’s important to draw out those wonderful green flecks in your eyes. Try out a deep violet to draw out that brilliant green color and make your eyes brighter.

Blue eyes are so beautiful on their own. With colored liner, you just want to add to that beauty. Don’t worry about going crazy with color, complement your light eyes with something simple, like a navy blue or a warm copper to contrast the coolness of your eyes.

Because your eyes are now so alluring with your wonderful liner, it’s important to not over-do your outfit. You don’t want to add to your turquoise eyeliner with a bright multi patterned maxi dress and a fabulous red lip. No, people wouldn’t know where to look. Keep your look simple. Make use of your classic black and white outfits, use a minimal amount of patterns and create a subtle beauty so that your eyes have room to really make an impression and show your beauty.

Remember that colored eyeliner or beautifully detailed clothing choices are just mechanisms to further enhance your beauty. You already have everything you need to feel beautiful inside and out. Your eyes are proof of that.

Much Love,

– Camille Sarabia

A Fall Introduction

Hello there fellow Redemption readers,

As the leaves change color, turning into a deep auburn or a rusted orange, and refreshing summer lemonade is replaced by endless cups of coffee to get your days going and running, we have decided to make a few changes with redemption as well.

New stock will be in representing the best of fall times, Redemption has started a new company Boho Pretty , check it out any time, and of course there is me.

My name is Camille Sarabia and I will be the new blogger for Redemption. Feel free to think of me as your guide through road of fashion, new exciting and daring trends, accessorizing, details and anything fashion forward. As a bonus, I will add in a little beauty tips, DIY’s and How To’s. So keep an eye out for your favorites.

First before we get started, I would like for you to know a little about me.

I am currently a college student, studying Magazine Journalism at Indiana University, trying to make my place in this world. That means rigorous classes, extensive homework and waking up and 7 a.m., which I’m sure many of you know plenty about.

However, writing and fashion is my creative outlet to escape. I am currently sitting outside on a wooden table under a red umbrella. It’s 9:13 a.m and I’m all set with my green tea and cute little iPad to do what I love best: write and write about fashion. Honestly, I’d rather not be anywhere else.

Here are a few facts about me:

1. I am not an athlete and have come to terms with that about myself.
2. I am 5′ tall and wear size 5 shoes.
3. I love anything vintage, bohemian, classy and original.
4. I have slight obsession with leather boots. I currently own 5 pairs.
5. I fell in love with fashion, clothing, designs and everything apart of it when I was fifteen, but I have since learned that is not the brands, the trends, or how you wear it that makes the look; it is you. It is your air of confidence, it is feeling good and beautiful in your own skin and it is taking charge to be that woman that you want to be.

Please let me know if you have any ideas that you would like for me to touch on. I welcome anything and everything. I can’t wait to start exploring the world of fashion and beauty will all of you.

Much Love,

& Camille Sarabia
